Welcome to a virtual tour.
The Technology Visitors’ Centre (BTEK) has opened its doors in the Technology Park of Bilbao. In a way that is both attractive and fun, the Centre sets out to popularise the technologies produced in the Basque Country and worldwide. The project has been promoted by the Technology Park of Bilbao, and the Elhuyar Foundation has been responsible for its contents.
“BTEK, bizi teknologia”. (BTEK, experience technology), full report published in the magazine Elhuyar Zientzia eta Teknologia (in Basque).
Interview given by the BTEK protagonists on the radio program Norteko Ferrokarrilla (in Basque).
Report on the TV program Teknopolis (in Basque or Spanish).
The BTEK is set to be the Basque Autonomous Community’s first visitors’ centre for technology. In an avant-garde building, cutting-edge resources will be used at the BTEK to explain everyday technology and to disseminate the R + D + Innovation that is done locally. The philosophy of the centre is learning through games and involvement.
The project is being sponsored by the Technology Park of Bizkaia, the Elhuyar Foundation, the Confederation of the Basque Country’s Ikastolas [Basque-medium schools], SPRI S.A. and the Tecnalia corporation. Support for running the project comes from the following institutions: the EHU-University of the Basque Country, the Departments of Education and Industry, Trade and Tourism of the Government of the Basque Autonomous Community, the Charter Provincial Council of Bizkaia, and the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.
The Elhuyar Foundation will be responsible for running the museology and museography project, and we are immersed in all this work right now and until the last quarter of 2009 when the BTEK is scheduled to open.
