The AnHitz project sets out to conduct research into and develop the Basque language technologies needed for people and machines to interact with each other, and to manage knowledge in a natural, intuitive and pleasant way. A demo has been developed to assess the capacity for integration of the language technologies used in the project, and it is, in fact, the avatar known as AnHitz.
AnHitz is a virtual, interactive character, who is an expert in science matters and speaks in Basque. It is not only able to understand the questions on science matters put to it, but also to reply to them.

Microsoft has brought out versions of these products in Basque. Elhuyar was responsible for this localization work, and the language was overseen by the Sub-Ministry for Language Policy of the Basque Autonomous Community Government.
