Elhuyar was set up in 1972 with the aim of linking science and the Basque language. Elhuyar started life as a Cultural Association and became a Foundation in 2002. Since then, the Elhuyar Foundation has not stopped working to popularise science and technology, and to promote the development of the Basque language.
The Elhuyar Foundation is a non-profit making organisation and many sources of funding enable it to go on working: members’ contributions, public funding and the income from the Elhuyar products.
In its strategic plan the Elhuyar Foundation has marked out the route to be followed during the period 2010-2012. Between early June and September 2009 and with the broad participation of our members of staff, we specified the main challenges for the coming three years. Despite the context of uncertainty, we at the Elhuyar Foundation want to go on steadily pursuing the communication of science and the development of the Basque language, just as we have been doing since 1972.
We set out to foster the communication of science and technology and the development of the Basque language; to achieve this, we take innovation as the basis to offer services, tools and resources with added value that are clearly aimed at the Basque public. That is our raison d’être. This is the make-up of the Elhuyar Foundation’s Board of Trustees:
